Get Ready for Barbecue Season With These Simple Maintenance Tips

Posted by Nancy Nelson on Apr 19, 2016 10:50:01 AM

Repeated heating and cooling can loosen fasteners over time. A few minutes of simple maintenance at the beginning of the season and periodically throughout the year will keep your Primo Ceramic Grill performing well.

Tools Needed:

  • Oval XL 400 & Oval LG 300: 14mm (9/16”), 11mm (7/16”) and 10mm
  • Oval JR 200: 13mm (1/2”), 11mm (7/16”) and 10mm
  • Phillips and Flathead Screwdrivers

Step #1 (Check Hardware Tightness)

  • The Two Carriage Bolts That Secure the Bands (The two bolts should be bent when you purchased the grill).
  • Hinge Plate Cap Nuts (fastened to bands)
  • Handle Cap Nuts
  • Any exposed hardware on Primo Cradles, Carts and Grill Tables.

* Tip for Spinning Screws
If the cap nuts don't seem to tighten properly, apply pressure between the band and flange of the handle or hinge with a flat head screwdriver while tightening the cap nuts.

Step #2 (Check the Gaskets for Proper Sealing)

  1. Open the grill and use a dollar bill and place half the bill on top of the base gasket, then close the grill and pull out the dollar bill.
  2. Repeat in several places around the circumference of the grill.
  3. If there is tension on the bill or it cannot be pulled out, then the gaskets are fine.
  4. If there is no tension and the bill easily comes out the gaskets should be replaced. Contact Nelson's Hometowne Recreation, your local Primo Dealer, to get a replacement kit.
